100% grass-fed Beef and Lamb

Lowline Cattle and Coloured Ryeland Sheep

Small scale farming to the highest standard

A Smallholding in the heart of Sussex with a focus on high welfare, natural and sustainable farming to produce the best quality beef and lamb.

Both the Coloured Ryeland Sheep and Lowline Cattle were chosen due to their docile nature and small size making them easy to work with, and of course the exceptional taste! They are also able to finish off grass without the need for additional feed.  Being 100% grass-fed means they are naturally maturing over a longer period to produce the best quality meat. The livestock spend all year outside, with shelter in the form of trees and hedges and free access to hay in the winter months.   Livestock are far happier and healthier outside and these breeds are particularly suited when the  colder months come.

Pedigree Coloured Ryeland sheep occasionally for sale. Please get in touch for more information.

Did you know not all grass-fed labeled meat is 100% grass-fed. Currently the term ‘grass-fed’ can be used to describe products that are predominantly fed grass for just 51% of the time.

As well as being better for the environment, 100% grass-fed meat has numerous nutritional benefits including:

Higher levels of good, healthy fats such as Omega 3, and a healthier ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 fatty acids.

High levels of Conjugated Linoleic Acids (CLA).

Higher Vitamin and Mineral levels.

Originating from Herefordshire, the Ryeland is one of the oldest English sheep breeds going back seven centuries when monks of Leominster bred sheep and grazed them on rye pasture.

Traditionally white, coloured lambs are produced due to a result of the expression of recessive colour genes.

High quality wool in demand by Queen Elizabeth I back in the day and hand spinners today.
